Sara's Open-face Monte Cristo Sandwich

Brunch is my favorite meal. I love playing with eggs as my protein of choice, since I'm a poor college student. Today, I had a bit of left over ham from Christmas and found gouda on sale at my local grocery store. With a bit of imagination, I made my own Monte Cristo. 


Ham, sliced or in small chunks

Gouda cheese

1 slice of gluten-free sandwich bread (I used Glutino, but my favorite is Schar.)

1 egg

1-2 tsp of jam (I like strawberry.)

Step One: Place bread in the oven to toast, unless you are special and have a toaster, unlike me. You could also pan fry it, your choice. 

Step Two: Put your ham in a skillet and fry it until hot. 

Step Three: When your bread is lightly toasted, spread on some jam and put the ham on top. Add gouda (grated) on top of the ham and put it back in the oven to melt.

Step Four: Fry your egg. I like mine over easy, as you know. 

Step Five: Take your toast out of the oven, top it with the egg, and enjoy with a fork!
